Sicily, Syracuse (Dionysios I, 405-367 B.C.), Silver Drachm, 4.20g, 5h.Probably an unsigned work by Eukleidas, c.405-400 B.C.ΣYPAKOΣIΩN (partially visible), head of Athena facing, inclined slightly to left, wearing a triple-crested Attic helmet, earring and necklace, four dolphins swim around. Rev. [ΣYPAKOΣI]-ΩN, the hero Leukaspis, naked except for helmet, advancing right, holding a spear in his right hand and a spear in his left; an altar in background, a sacrificed lamb lying before him at his feet [ΛE]YKAΣΠIΣ in exergue (Rizzo, pl. XLVII, 1 (this obverse die); SNG ANS 310 (these dies); Boston 420 (this obverse die).Beautiful classical style, well-centred, the reverse particularly good, and showing virtually complete types, unusually for this issue showing most of the exergue inscription, cabinet tone, very fine.Rare.
