RUSSIAN. MEDALS. Nicholas I Medals. Celebratory ring inset with a miniature gold portrait medal of Nicholas I. The medal by Vladimir Ephraimowitch Alexejeff (1784-1832). Cf.Diakov 446.1-8. Bare head right, signed "A" below the truncation. The ring in white gold, the tops of The shanks decorated with a floral spray in two colors of gold. The medal encircled with a narrow, dark blue enamel border, unmarked, the ring approx. 7.5mm, ring 22.5mm, contained in a 19th century velvet-lined maroon leather fitted ring-box. In excellent condition, a few minor marks to the ring
Alexejeff, was given the title "Medallist of the St. Petersburg Mint" in 1805 and his dates and the style of the medal, point to it being struck to commemorate Nicholas's accession or his Coronation on September 3, 1826
