Alexander Arkadievich Suvorov (1804-1882) was the grandson of the renowned Fieldmarshal Alexander Vasiliyevich Suvorov, Count of Rymnik, Generalissimo of all Russia, and son of Lt. General Arkadi Suvorov, who fought in the Napoleonic and Turkish Wars. He served as Governor General of Riga from 1848 to 1861, then as Governor General of St. Petersburg until 1866. It was A.A. Suvorov who announced the death of Tsar Alexander II at the hands of assassins in 1881. This medal was issued by one of the many societies of which he was a patron during his time as General Governor of St. Petersburg.
