RUSSIAN MEDALS. Medals of Nicholas II. Medal. Bronze. Uniface. 101mm. Unsigned. On the arrival of Nicholas II and Alexandra Feodorovna at Cherbourg for their State Visit to France, 1896. Diakov .Nicholas II in uniform and fur hat, greeted by President Émile Loubet, each holding their nation's flag, the Russian Imperial Yacht Standart, behind them. Suspension loop in form of a tied ribbon, a cast of good quality, much as made. Extremely fine
Nicholas II and Alexandra came to France as part of a grand European tour, landing in Cherbourg September 23,1896 and visiting Paris to open the Pont Alexandre III. The tour ended in Scotland, where they stayed with Queen Victoria at Balmoral. This medal's reverse shows, faintly, the names Cronstadt and Toulon, from the 1893 Franco- Russian Alliance, and Cherbourg and Paris, from the 1896 visit.
