The Bisaltian series is a short-lived one that might have lasted for ten or fifteen years only. The Macedonian king Alexander I undertook the task of conquering the Bisaltian district in order to gain control of the silver mines there. Having accomplished his goal, he adopted the coin type of the Bisaltian coinage but put his own name in place of theirs
