Scotland, National Bank of Scotland Ltd. 1.12.1955 P-259d PMG Gem UNC 65 EPQ 5 Pounds
A very unusual Gem Uncirculated grade is seen on this large-format Scottish banknote from the 1950s. These notes were typically folded by Scottish banktellers prior to being issued, and it is highly unusual to find an example that is fully uncirculated with original paper quality (as seen here). Most so-called "UNCs" have been processed in order to remove the folds, and this is among a very select few (in fact, we can't recall seeing any in recent memory) that is truly uncirculated, as indicated by the PMG grade. An important opportunity for the specialist who desires the finest notes in their collection.
