CHINA--FOREIGN BANKS. The Bank of Canton Limited. 5 Dollars, 1917. P-S153A. PMG Choice Fine 15.
(S/M#K63-2). Shanghai. Printed by ABNC. This is the sole example available to collectors in a PMG holder for this elusive fully issued 5 Dollar note. This is the first time we can recall handling this variety in issued format, and this is sure to create a buzz amongst collectors if Chinese paper money to take this elusive piece home. Interestingly, there is a purple ink stamp on the face of the note from the "Bank of Manhattan Trust Co." at 30-30 Steinway Street in NYC. The front of the note depicts the Waitan, a waterfront district in central Shanghai. The landscape on the reverse design is of Hong Kong. PMG comments "Restoration". PMG Pop 1/No Others Graded.
Estimate: $3000 - $5000
