CHINA. Hupeh. Brass Cash, ND (1898). Kuang-hsu (Guangxu). PCGS MS-64.
Hsu-181. Tied for the finest of the type yet certified by PCGS, the present example delivers a boastful amount of luster along with strong details. Escaping really any evidence of handling, this piece is perfect for the specialist in Cash issues.

Though previously called a pattern issue, likely arising from the placement of this piece with "foreign-made machine mint products" in CCC, it is more likely not a trial striking. Though elusive, there appears to be too many produced to be patterns, with 23 on the PCGS population report. Additionally, Hsu places this coin as a regular circulation strike along with other contemporaneous Cash.

From the Kenneth Bressett Collection.

Estimate: $1000 - $2000
