FRANCE. Napoleon III/Proclamation of the Empire Silver Medal, 1852. Paris Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-65.
Divo-116. Diameter: 77mm; Weight: 228 gms. By A. Caque. Obverse: Bare head left; Reverse: Legend in five lines within wreath. Edge: [hand] ARGENT. Almost transfixing in its overall appeal, this attractively toned issue offers a great rendition of the new emperor along with an enticing tone that is mostly composed of lilac and cobalt. Includes original case of issue.

On the morning of 2 December, prefect of the Seine, Jean Jacques Berger, proclaimed the Empire in the Paris municipal palace (Hotel de Ville). Napoleon III, returning on horseback from the castle of Saint Cloud, entered the Tuileries, looked out from the balcony, and, in front of 10,000 men crowded in the court, the general of Saint-Arnaud, minister of war, read the plebiscite that restored the Empire in France.

Estimate: $2000 - $3000
