Order of St. Andrew
Order of St. Andrew Part of a Collar of the Order, composed by nine links:- two large trophies-of-arms with the imperial monogram of Tsar Peter I (47,0 x 45,0 mm.)- three imperial Russian eagle (51,0 x 40,0 mm.) - four round medallions with the St. Andrew Cross with the "SARP" inscription for "Sanctus Andreas Russiae Patronus" (42,0 x 35,0 mm.), Each part in the finest Russian quality, the reverse of each link, struck with the "IP" marks of Immanuel Pannasch and the gold marks of St. Petersburg dated 1834, in a large, red morocco fitted case with gold embossed, crowned "A" on the lid, being the well-known monogram of Prince Alfons of Bavaria.A most rare set of the highest order of Imperial Russia, instituted by the Tsar Peter I "the Great", conferred upon the personal will of the sovereign, to the highest dignitaries and personalities, either national or foreign. It was in one class only. Provenance: The Royal Family of Bavaria, by descent to the property of Prince Alphonse of Bavaria (1862 - 1933). Bibliography: G.A.
