Brabant. Albert and Elizabeth (1598-1621) gold Double Souverain 1612-20, Antwerp mint, Fr-91, Delm-147, AU50 ANACS. A beautifully engraved and imposing large gold coin of the Hapsburg Netherlands, this Double Souverain would have traded at a nominal value of 12 Florins. The strike is well-executed and the surfaces are without noteworthy abrasions, although the flan has annealing flaws in the upper left quadrant of the reverse. Protected areas display reddish tone and the portraits of the Archduke and Duchess retain excellent detail. This coin was issued during the Twelve Years' Truce, one of few breaks in the Eighty Years' War for Dutch Independence.
Estimate: 4000-5000 USD
