Pedro I gold 4000 Reis 1823-R, KM369.1, Russo-593, MS62 NGC. The first year of issue for the Pedro I 4000 Reis type and one of the more available dates in the series with a mintage of 20,895 coins. That said, Mint State example such as the present are always the target of type collectors, with demand easily surpassing supply. The present coin, both Mint State and pleasing, exhibits a better strike than most with a nearly fully detailed shield on the reverse and an impressively sharp date. The luster remains unimpeded and while light handling is evident, its visual impact is mild at best. All in all, a fantastic coin and a worthy of a premium bid. Krause catalog price(s) for this item: $500 in VF, $725 in EF, $1300 in UNC.
Estimate: 2500-3000 USD
