Tientsin Provisional Government Boxer Uprising gold Medal 1902, a medal designed by J. Chevt, manufactured by the Japanese jeweler TENSHODO, and issued by the Tientsin (T'ienchin) Tutung Yamen, a temporary local government formed by allied forces after the overthrow of Boxer Rebellion, the obverse has the legend in French around the enameled flags of the seven occupying nations, Great Britain, Russia, Japan, France, Italy, Germany, and the United States, reverse has a Chinese inscription within a wreath, 97.07 gm, 52 mm, UNC, with minor rim bumps. A superb example with sand-blast surfaces and perfect enameling on the obverse flags. Extremely rare, and common knowledge has only two recorded specimens. If this piece is one of the two recorded examples, it is, by far, the finest known example. The Boxer Rebellion was a pro-nationalist movement in China between 1898-1901, supported by the Dowager Empress Cixi, and declaring war on foreigners in China. An eight-nation alliance brought 20,000 troops to China, defeated the Imperial army and captured Beijing, ending the uprising.

Estimate: 30000-40000 USD
