People's Republic Return to Macao gold Proof 500 Yuan 1997, KM1050, Fr-177, Proof 68 Deep Cameo PCGS. Edge Number: 004. Mintage: 228. A historic issue that shows Deng Xiaoping overlooking the city of Macao under the agreement that it would transfer back from Portuguese control to that of China. While this official transfer wouldn't happen until December 20, 1999, the agreement had been in place since 1987, and for many living in mainland China as well as Macau, this cultural "correction", must have been a celebration-worthy event indeed. The surfaces of the present example are deeply contrasted between the fields and devices and close inspection shows little evidence of mishandling. A very scarce treasure with no recent sales of this type recorded.
