Carolingian. Charles the Simple (898-929) Immobilized Type Denier c.955-960 or later, Melle (Metallum) mint, Depyrot-629, MS62 PCGS. + CΛRLVS (retrograde S) REX I, short cross pattée in beaded border / MET | o ΛLO, mint name in two lines. A beautiful example with outstanding cabinet patina. The strike is crisp and the surfaces are without noteworthy marks. There are a number of immobilized types of several of the Carolingian Kings. Often, the extant immobilized type examples greatly outnumber the original issue.
