Philippe VI (1328-50) gold Écu d'or à la chaise ND, 1st Emission, from 1 January 1337, Fr-270, Duplessy-249, MS61 PCGS. + PhILIPPVS : DЄI x | x GRA x | FRAnCORVM : RЄX, King seated on Gothic throne, a sword in his right hand and his left supporting a shield / + o XP'C : VInCIT : XP'C : RЄGИAT : XP'C : IMPЄRAT, cross fleurée with voided quatrefoil in center and at the ends of the limbs, leaves in angles; all within a quadrilobe with trefoils in spandrels. A well-struck example from a later die state; the die-working marks are quite clear on the reverse and there is some evidence of die rust. The color of the piece is very attractive and the flan is without noteworthy flaws.
