Charles VII (1422-61) gold Écu d'or ND, Saint-André de Villenueve-lès-Avignon mint, 1st Emission, from 21 January 1423, Fr-306, Duplessy-453, MS63 NGC. + KAROLVS (backward S) : DЄI : GRACIA : FRAnCORVM : RЄX, crowned arms of France / + XPC * VINCIT * XPC * RЄGNAT * XPC * IИPЄRAT, cross fleurée with leaves, a star in the center; all within a quadrilobe with lis at points and crowns in spandrels. A beautiful specimen with original, lustrous surfaces. The legends are entirely on the flan and instances of ghosting are quite minor. Overall, this example is wonderfully preserved and has excellent eye-appeal. Examples from the St. Andre mint are quite scarce and can be identified by a pellet beneath the 20th letter of the legend on each side.
