MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Antigonus III Doson (229-221 BC). AR/Æ fourrée tetradrachm (30mm, 15.76 gm, 8h). Head of Poseidon right, wearing wreath of seaweed / ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΝΤΙΓΟΝΟΥ, Apollo seated to left on ram prow of war galley, holding bow in his right hand; below, monogram. Cf. SNG Alpha Bank 1046-1047. A handsome piece, apparently made from "official dies," identifiable as a fourrée by the light weight and cracking of silver plating around the edge, exposing copper core. Extremely Fine.
