Valentinian I (AD 364-375). AV solidus (21mm, 4.47 gm, 6h). Nicomedia, AD 367-375. D N VALENTINI - ANVS P F AVG, diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Valentinian right / GLORIA - REI - PVBLICAE, Roma and Constantinopolis enthroned facing, supporting between them a wreath inscribed VOT V / MVLT X; Constantinopolis holding sceptre and resting foot on prow, Roma holding spear; in ex. palm branch SMNΘ. Cf. RIC 13a-b (first rosette diademed, palm in exergue, second a coin of Valens with identical reverse). Extremely rare-- his portrait / legend type seemingly unrecorded! Extremely Fine.
