Great Britain
Edward III (1327-77) gold Quarter Noble ND, S-1483, North-1112, 3rd Coinage of 1344-51, MS63 NGC, a charming coin on a broad flan, lustrous and sharp in details except for a few small areas of the legends, the obverse showing the king's shield in unusually bold detail (the leopards and Lis marks are crisp and singly struck) within the tressure of six arches (used on early issues), and on reverse the engraving within eight arches, with its lions or leopards passant and the Lis at the end of the central floriated cross, centered by the king's initial E, is especially clear and intriguing. The legends are a treat to read. These features are so often poorly engraved and jumbled in strike that the typical quarter-noble is difficult to study. This coin is exceptionally fine in every way.
