Great Britain
Edward IV (2nd Reign, 1471-83) gold Angel ND, S-2091, North-1626, London, "E" and rose by ship's mast, Cinquefoil mm on each side (struck 1480-83), MS64 NGC, a sensational Angel, boldly struck throughout with very choice surfaces and intense 15th-century luster, the flan nearly perfect in shape and gold texture, Saint Michael of the early style wearing deeply detailed armor and feathers and with one foot holding down the devil (dragon) as it is stabbed through the mouth, the monster's leathery hide fantastically detailed and his claw sharply pointed. The flan does not contain the tops of all letters in the the legends, but all of the letters still remain clear and easily read. The rose and sun were Edward's personal badges, and his rose (boldly engraved) is prominent on this angel alongside his initial by the ship's mast. The initial or mint mark, an Heraldic Cinquefoil, indicates that this coin was minted at the end of the reign. All in all, this is without question one of the best Angels to be found anywhere. In fact, we cannot locate any sale within the past five years of a specimen so well engraved, so boldly struck, or so finely preserved as this coin. Here indeed is a sensational example of a classic gold coin, the standard money of the late Middle Ages in England.

Estimate: 8000-10000 USD
