Great Britain
Elizabeth I (1558-1603) gold Angel ND, S-2531, North-2005 (scarce), 6th Issue of 1583-1600, Crescent mm (1587-89), MS63 NGC, an evenly struck example, bold on the reverse but somewhat doubly struck on the angel's head and nearby features, the surfaces lustrous and choice, flan almost round but imperfect at the rim at about 5 o'clock obverse (ragged edges are the norm on hammered coins, struck without collars), and importantly the queen's full name, her royal titles, and the religious slogan comprising the reverse legend are all boldly struck, adding to both the eye-appeal and the pleasure of studying this excellent golden Angel. One of the finest of these to appear on the market in recent years.
Estimate: 8000-10000 USD
