Great Britain
James I (1603-25) gold Rose-Ryal ND, of 30 Shillings, S-2613, North-2079 (rare), 2nd Coinage of 1604-19, King Enthroned with portcullis at his feet, encompassing Tudor rose on reverse, Rose mm (1605-06), XF45 NGC, light even wear, wavy broad flan with full legends, sharp on the king's small face as well as in the center of reverse, choice surfaces for the grade, yellow gold, a few tiny spots of red wax among the letters of the reverse legend (an old collector's piece, so waxed for identification). On this huge gold coin, worth a small fortune in buying power when it was made, the obverse legend contains a new royal title which includes the Latin MAG BRIT to designate that James declared himself king of the united lands of England and Scotland, as well as Ireland, and kept the old title from the 15th century proclaiming France to be one of his kingdoms, too.

Estimate: 12000-15000 USD
