George I gold 5 Guineas 1716, S-3626, only style of portrait on this denomination, Secundo edge, very rare in any grade, AU Details "Polished" NGC, a boldly struck and well-centered coin that has been skillfully burnished but seems to have been virtually Mint State at the time that was done, the king's hair flowing down his neck with every curl detailed, the reverse shield and both legends also really sharp, each side well centered with mostly high rims, bright yellow in color with some reddish hues. Both this huge 5-Guineas and the silver Crown are rare in this reign, which was so short lived; the Crown features the Germanic monarch with draped shoulders, while this coin depicts him with a bare neck line and a more elegant hair style. The portrait on this coin is arguably the best there is of old King George. By the time the Royal Mint had prepared dies for this, the largest gold coin, the first "fancy" legend which included the king's title of Prince Elector (PR EL) had been modified to the titles seen on this coin, continuing from the obverse to the reverse and ending in ET EL instead of Prince. Struck in only four years during this reign, this date being the first.

Estimate: 15000-20000 USD
