Edward the Elder (899-924) Two-line Penny ND, Warmer as moneyer, S-1087, North-649, MS62 PCGS. + EADVVEARD REX, small cross pattée / VVAR | MER Mō, moneyer name in two lines with the crosses between, a trefoil of pellets above and below. Superb. The strike is firm and even and the surfaces are marvelously toned in hues of pearlescent greens and reds. The obverse border veers off-flan for just a few letters of the legend. Edward was the last King of Wessex. His son, Æthelstan would become the first King of all England.
