William I (the Conqueror, 1066-87) Penny ND, S-1257, North-848, PAXS type, moneyer Lifwine of Exeter, MS62 NGC, exceptionally fine, struck on a broad flan without cracks or flaws, typical slight softness of strike on some letters but the central devices sharply defined including an excellent facing portrait, a lovely light golden blue iridescence adding to the eye-appeal. The PAX pennies were the final issue of the Conqueror, struck in the years 1083-86.
