Charles I (1625-49) gold Unite ND, S-2685, North-2146, garnished shield, Tower Mint under the King, 1st Bust, Lis mm (struck 1625), uncertified: XF with remnant luster, on a broad flan, portrait a bit faint but well outlined, obverse struck off center and showing considerable doubling, light hairlines on the open fields, reverse perfectly centered, lustrous and boldly struck showing only slight doubling and quite choice. A number of varieties exist from numerous dies. This coin shows the king's early portrait, his flat face in stark profile, chin resting upon his ruff, which is thick and rounded. The famous Charles I beard is boldly shown here. This coin is far above average and quite appealing as you study it.
