Great Britain
Charles I (1625-49) gold Unite ND, S-2687, N-2149, Tower Mint under the King, Heart mm (struck 1629-30), XF40 NGC, struck on a slightly wavy but very broad flan, portrait and shield both well defined, clear and easily read legends, some old light abrasions and such but the eye is treated to its lovely reddish gold color. The familiar reverse legend translates to signify "Through concord kingdoms flourish" but within twenty years of when this coin was minted Charles's kingdom had been surrendered after it was split apart by a civil war that continued brokenly for some seven years. What was tragic for the participants has proven to be a boon for collectors over the centuries -- a vast host of coinage types to be studied and enjoyed.
