Cromwell Crown 1658/7, S-3226, ESC-10, dies by Thomas Simon, MS62 "Ex Lockett Collection" NGC, a wonderful piece, choice for a Cromwell crown with deep russet gray surfaces, luster clearly beneath the toning, fairly early die state with the famous die-break across Oliver's chest just beginning to be noticeable, the usual bold strike being especially crisp on the legends and on the laurel leaves on the Protector's head. The raised edge lettering (HAS NISI PERITURUS MIHI ADIMAT NEMO -- "Let no one remove these letters" in translation) is crisp and the plain areas between letters are lustrous. This is an elegant coin and among the very best examples this cataloguer has encountered in nearly 40 years' involvement with English numismatics. A classic, nearly As struck, with an excellent pedigree.
