Great Britain
Anne gold 5 Guineas 1706, S-3566, Post Union type, AU55 NGC, small marks on the surfaces, pleasing portrait, sharp reverse shield, with reddish hues to the lovely gold color. A solid example of this type of 5 Guineas, and the date 1706 is a curious one for the Post Union coins, as the legal union of England and Scotland occurred on January 17, 1707, at which point the arrangement of the shields on the reverse was altered as we see on this coin. That the shields are so arranged on this 1706 coin suggests that the Royal Mint anticipated the Act of Union and prepared dies early on. Clearly, they made this coin a bit early!
