George II Halfcrown 1751, S-3696, ESC-610, Old Laureate Head, Vicesimo Quarto edge, MS65 "Ex Lockett Collection" NGC, a superb coin having fully original surfaces, gleaming with cartwheel luster, fully struck, and sheathed in beautiful silvery golden gray iridescent toning. The final year of issue for the Halfcrown of this reign. Rated R2 by ESC, but in fact this date tends to show up in pleasing AU at best, occasionally in full Mint State, but rarely in this superlative condition. The cataloguer has been involved with English coins for nearly 40 years and recalls seeing this coin previously -- but cannot remember ever seeing its equal.From The Formosa Collection
