George II Proof Crown 1732, S-3686, ESC-118 (R3), Young Laureate Bust, Roses & Plumes reverse, striated plain edge, PR63 NGC, choice and seemingly finer than most of the handful of pieces sold at auction in the past 5 to 10 years: bold proof impression, slightly off center on obverse, crisp denticles on the rims showing no abuse, beautifully but subtly toned in iridescent shades of pinkish rose gold and bluish green when viewed at an angle, with a rich gray base. Beneath the color, which looks to be entirely original, the surfaces glitter with reflective luster caused by polished dies, which were engraved by J.S. Tanner. First year of issue for this type. While not perfect, this coin is among the best we have seen and is clearly superior to most of its kin. It is a classic of the early Georgian Era, and the perfect centerpiece for a collection of the silver coinage of King George II. Only a few types of earlier crowns exist in proof state, and it is the first proof crown of the 18th century.

Estimate: 20000-22500 USD
