Great Britain
George III Proof Halfpenny 1770, S-3774, Peck-895 (rare), 1st Issue, Tower mint London, plain edge (struck in a striated collar), PR65 BN NGC, an exceptional example of this classic copper, last type struck at London until the reign of George IV (in 1825): after 1775, all copper coins were made on contract with the Royal Mint at Birmingham, by the Soho Mint. This specimen is struck off center, which is true of most known proofs of this date. The copper color is a rich iridescent brown, with the reflective mirrors of the proof strike showing, and a fantastic strike of the images. Reverse has a number of carbon deposits. The coin is 244 years old and such deposits are the norm.
