George III Era counterstamped Dollar ND (1797-99), S-3765A, ESC-129, portrait type, AU58 NGC, a splendid example of this emergency issue, with the small oval counterstamp struck into an 8 Reales of Carlos IV dated 1795-Mo FM. Probably struck when the host coin was new, because the counterstamping occurred from 1797 until the new crowns were issued in 1804, and most of those were struck over Spanish coins used as blanks. This coin is boldly detailed, with excellent centering, choice surfaces, and rich bluish gray and pinkish gold iridescent toning. One of the best of these we have offered.
