Victoria Proof Crown 1845, S-3882, ESC-339 (R4, broad margin), L&S-43, KM741, Young Head, plain edge, medal-rotation die alignment, PR64+ Cameo PCGS, perfectly struck, with fully mirrored fields, lightly toned in hues of delicate golden bluish gray iridescence which is perfectly even on each side. Extremely rare in proof state, and just splendid in its state of preservation: William Wyon's famed piece, made for the young queen (she was just 26 when this coin was struck), signed by him in raised, small capital letters "WWYON.RA" on the truncation of the portrait which features raised engraved scrolls and leaves on both hair-bands (fillets), a crisp date with the last digit leaning slightly to the left, crisp letters on each word of the obverse legend albeit a few letters are recut, and consistently sharp denticles inside the obverse raised and broad margin of the rim, which has a slightly raised surrounding line at its tip; on the reverse, every minute detail of the royal shield is crisp, fully impressed by the die -- the crown, surrounding wreath, and letters of the legend are all perfect in detail. The reverse rim distinguishes this variety as so noted in ESC, having a flat broad margin with flattened tops to the denticles within, ending with a slightly raised surrounding line at its tip. We have located a few others at auction in the past ten years but none better than this appealing coin, and not one of the others has been certified, to our knowledge. There is a reason: most of the few other known specimens lack this coin's many fine qualities.

Estimate: 35000-40000 USD
