ΛZDRDΛNDVO DVX | SN VЄNЄTI, St. Mark standing right presenting banner to kneeling Doge left / SIT T XPЄ DΛTDTT | ROIZ IZTΛ DVCΛTT, Christ standing facing, holding gospels and raising hand in benediction, surrounded by mandorla and stars. A stunning imitative issue, well-struck and fully lustrous. Although the reverse exhibits signs of die-wear in the legends, the central details and obverse legends are crisp and fully struck up. Venetian Ducats were imitated in Duchies throughout Frankish Greece and the Levant and, although crude in their manufacture, are charming in their way and rarely seen in this remarkable level of preservation.
