Republic brass Pattern 8 Pesos 1855, KM-unlisted, About Uncirculated. A rare early work by Swiss engraver Johann Baptist Frener, who had arrived in Guatemala in late 1854. This brass pattern for the 8 Pesos denomination shows a Liberty Head on the reverse signed by Frener on its truncation. It is generally accepted that the model for this design was Frener's companion (See Manuel Rubio Sanchez: Grabadores de Guatemala, Banco de Guatemala, 1975). The dies used for the obverse were left over dies with the incomplete 18.. date, and the last two digits punches into them. This design had been engraved in conformity with the April 4, 1853 decree. A similar 20 Pesos pattern is also known, and the 1859 2 Pesos also comes with the 1859/55 overdate, an evidence of a die prepared in that date. Ex.
