Guatemala
Republic gold 8 Pesos 1864-R, KM184, Fr-33. AU58 NGC. 474 pieces minted. Types as previous lot. Highly lustrous, especially on the reverse side, with a few handling marks keeping it from Uncirculated. Once considered extremely rare - note that the first specimen confirmed by Prober was the Farouk coin (Sotheby's 2-3/1954, part of lot 104), a few specimens included in major collections have since appeared. Nevertheless, it remains very scarce, and this specimen is among the finest seen by the cataloguer. All specimens apparently come from a single pair of dies, identified on the reverse by the broadly repunched 64 digits in the date. Ex. Spink's London (9/1980, lot 573 for £1,100).From The Isaac Rudman Collection of Guatemala Coins Krause catalog price(s) for this item: $850 in VF, $1500 in EF.

Estimate: 1500-2000 USD
