Hiberno-Norse. Phase V (c.1065-95) Penny ND, Uncertain mint, 14.9 grs., S-6147, MS62 PCGS. Blundered legend, draped bust left, cross pattée behind neck / Blundered legend, small cross pattée. A very rare Hiberno-Norse imitation of the small cross pennies of Edward the Confessor. Very crude, the strike has been poorly executed leaving all but a few letters of an already blundered legend illegible. Despite that, the type is very clear and the surfaces are remarkably preserved. Stunning iridescent highlights on gunmetal tone are visually pleasing and the rarity of this issue should be quite attractive to any serious collector of this esoteric series.
