Umberto I gold 50 Lire 1884-R, KM25, Fr-19, MS61 NGC. Mintage: 2,534. The first year of this scarce three-year type, and rarely available on the market with available example always being immediately snapped up and put into collections. The present example, nice for the type, is especially well-struck with sharp segmentation of Umberto's hair curls and smooth mirror-like reflectivity in the fields. Minor ticks limit the grade, but don't have significant affect on the eye appeal. Krause catalog price(s) for this item: $3000 in VF, $4000 in EF, $8000 in UNC.
