Felipe IV Royal 8 Reales 1667/6 Mo-G, Lazaro-Unlisted. XF45 NGC. Ex: Huntington Collection. Lazaro-Unlisted. XF45 NGC. Ex: Huntington Collection. Unholed with very attractive old-time toning, on a round flan albeit with some weakness in the legends at 3 and 9 o'clock (the uncommonly large flan was probably beyond the technical minting capabilities).A choice specimen in the extremely rare series of "Royal" 8 Reales of Felipe IV, of which Lazaro cited only 8 dates, with six of his plate coins being holed!  The present date, previously unrecorded, is assumed unique as our research failed to yield even a previous suggestion of the date's existence. Its posthumous titles, struck in the name of Felipe IV who passed on September 17, 1665, is also considered unique for "Royal" coinage of Mexico; this quirk, while certainly interesting, may also prove historically significant in further explaining the true reason for these mysterious types. As such, this coin, wonderfully preserved, unequalled in nature and historic in type will certainly appeal to the scholar, researcher and expert collector of Spanish Colonial Mexico, who will no doubt recognize this offering for what it is - a singular opportunity!

Estimate: 100000-140000 USD
