Thorn. Johann Casimir gold 2 Ducats 1664 HD-L, KM45, Fr-59, Gum-1959, Dutkowski/Suchanek-1573 (R5), Uncirculated and superbly struck. Bright luster in protected areas accentuates sharply-detailed devices. The obverse fields exhibit some careful smoothing and minor die rust and a few very light marks are noted on the reverse, although the visual impact of these issues is very minor. The overall impression left by this piece is that of a well-kept cabinet specimen saved from circulation, lightly toned and very choice. The wealth of Thorn during this period, apparent from its independent coinage, owes largely to its status as a Hanseatic city dating from the late-13th century. Krause catalog price(s) for this item: $7800 in VF, $13500 in EF.

Estimate: 15000-20000 USD
