India. Sikh Empire. Second Anglo-Sikh War. Siege of Multan. Issue of the besieged Sikh forces under Diwan Mulraj. AV Rupee (1/15 Mohur), Multan, VS 1905 (1848 AD). 0.64 gms. Legend, rev. Leaf, date at left. KM 87. A rebellion in Multan against the East India Company-installed ruler Sardar Khan Singh on April 18, 1848 launched the Second Anglo-Sikh War. Months later, Multan was besieged. On January 18, 1849 EIC sappers exploded three large mines causing heavy losses and destroying large sections of the city walls. On January 22, Diwan Mulraj and his 550 remaining soldiers surrendered. The British seized Mulraj's treasury valued at 3 Million British Pounds, a vast sum for the time, while the EIC troops looted the devasted city. Extremely Fine..
