Israel Bank Leumi Le-Israel B.M. 1 Lira Pick Unlisted Front and Back Composite Essay's. Thomas de la Rue was tasked with printing a banknote series for the Bank Leumi sometime in the early to mid-1950s. It seems that while the banknotes were being designed, the note issuance responsibilities of Bank Leumi were transferred to the newly-formed Bank of Israel. As such, the Bank of Israel adopted this design series from the Bank Leumi, and TDLR altered the issuer name along with other detail differences from the final design. These included the flora motif design on upper-right as well as some font and artistic motifs on the front essay and the symbols of the Twelve Tribes of Israel, the central abstract motif and location of the bank name on the back essay. These exceptional Essays are windows in the banknote printing process. Extremely scarce as this design was never issued by the Bank Leumi. These unique Composite Essays are the only way to have these two unused and unpublished designs as part of any collection. They appeared as the plate illustrations on pages 49 and 50 in the Dvir book The Raphael Dvir Paper Money of Israel Collection https://currency.ha.com/itm/world-currency/israel-bank-leumi-le-israel-bm-1-lira-pick-unlisted-front-and-back-composite-essay-s-total-2-notes-/a/4039-25313.s?type=DA-DMC-CoinArchivesCurrency-WorldPaperMoney-4039-10202022 HID08706262019 © 2022 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
