Israel Bank Leumi Le-Israel B.M. 5 Lirot Pick Unlisted Composite Essay. The Bank Leumi issued banknotes in the newly formed State of Israel. However, banknote issuance was transferred to the Bank of Israel from the Bank Leumi in 1955, hence the rarity of this superb 5 Lirot Essay. In fact, the entire series of notes is offered in today's auction. The group of notes represent a banknote series prepared for the Bank Leumi, which was ultimately not issued when the bank lost issuing privilege. The Bank of Israel assumed banknote issuance, and used the designs already prepared by Thomas de la Rue. This Composite Essay is unique and of significant historical importance. Differences from the final design include the numeral design on upper-right and left as well as the grape cluster at right. It was used for the plate illustration on page 57 in the 2022 book written by Raphael Dvir.
