Israel Bank Leumi Le-Israel B.M. 50 Lirot ND (ca. 1953-44) Pick UNL Printer's Design PMG Choice About Unc 58. An interesting Printer's Design of the highest denomination from the first issue for the Bank of Israel. The front shows the Road of Heroism to Jerusalem through the Judean hills. Although this example might appear familiar, or similar to the ultimate chosen design for this type, one needs to take a closer look at the subtle differences. The most obvious distinction would be the usage of the Bank Leumi name on the back, rather than the new name of the Bank of Israel, this would explain to why PMG left out the Bank name on the holder. Secondly, the signatures of the Governor and Chairman remained the same as the previous 1952 issue, an updated signature combination was eventually used. Lastly, the usage of the "A" as prefix, instead of the Hebrew Aleph. The cataloger is of opinion that this piece is museum quality, and historically important. PMG mentions stains are lightened and a printer annotation ("667/73"). Whether a Specimen (as some sources consider it) or a Printer's Design, recent research indicates that it is, in fact, unique. The note serves as the plate note on page 75 in Dvir's 2022 book on the subject.
