Israel Bank of Israel 5 Lirot 1955 / 5715 Pick 26s Approval Specimen PMG Very Fine 25. It is common practice in the design process of paper money for the Bank to make annotations directly on proposed Proof for changes they might require. The Proof offered here has a control number bottom left. Handwritten annotations indicate that this design approved, but the Bank wanted the serial number prefix letter amended from a Roman A to the Hebrew Aleph. Rather than detract from the intrigue of this Specimen, we find that the annotations add to the overall appeal. Scarce in this format, this example is a wonderful representation of the banknote design process. Believed to be unique with these additional change annotations, approval signature, and Roman prefix letter, this Specimen appears on page 94 of the Dvir catalog.
