Panama Banco Central de Emision 5 Balboas 1941 Pick 23s Specimen PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ. The famous 1941 series of banknotes from Panama are accompanied by a story. President Arnulfo Arias oversaw legislation to create an issuing body for banknotes, and the Hamilton Bank Note Company printed four denominations. The Central Bank of Issue of the Republic of Panama opened on September 30th 1941, and issued banknotes beginning on October 2nd. One week later, President Arias was overthrown, and the new government ordered that these notes be withdrawn and destroyed. These banknotes are known as the "Arias Seven Day" notes due to their short lifespan. All denominations are rare today, with special emphasis to the higher denominations. This Specimen for the 5 Balboas is the single finest graded by PMG at the time of cataloging, and it is an outstanding representation of the type. Hole punched cancellations are mentioned for accuracy. A historic and one of a kind example for any collection. https://currency.ha.com/itm/world-currency/panama-banco-central-de-emision-5-balboas-1941-pick-23s-specimen-pmg-gem-uncirculated-66-epq/a/4039-25459.s?type=DA-DMC-CoinArchivesCurrency-WorldPaperMoney-4039-10202022 HID08706262019 © 2022 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
