Cnut (1016-35) Penny c.1017-23, Chester mint, Ælfsige as moneyer, S-1157, North-781, AU58 NGC. + CNVT REX ΛNGLOR, crowned bust left within quatrefoil / + Æ | LFS | I ΘN | LEG, voided long cross with crescent ends over quatrefoil with pellet at each apex. More crudely engraved than its counterparts from such mints as London and Winchester, this little piece possesses an inherent charm. Ample luster remains with a slight tinge of golden tone.
