KINGS of MACEDON. temp. Philip III – Kassander. Circa 323/2-315 BC. AV Stater (18.5mm, 8.56 g, 9h). In the name and types of Philip II. Amphipolis mint. Head of Apollo right, wearing laurel wreath / ΦIΛIΠΠOY, charioteer, holding kentron in right hand, reins in left, driving fast biga right; monogram above, club below. Cf. Le Rider Group IIIA, unlisted issue. Some light marks. VF. Apparently unique.

While this particular issue is unpublished, it's placement in the Philip II type coinage is certain. The monogram here appears on the very first issue of Philip staters at Amphipolis (Le Rider 1), but the style of Apollo is identical to that found on the later Group IIIA staters (Le Rider 163–244). Also, the control configuration of a monogram above and symbol below is present on a number of issue in Group IIIA (Le Rider 231–7 and 244).
